New recognition for Professor Graham Reed
Many congratulations to Professor Graham Reed, Head of the Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC), who has been named as the 2026 John Tyndall Award recipient by Optica and the IEEE Photonics Society.

This prestigious award recognises individuals for pioneering and influential contributions to fibre optic technology. We are very proud to see Graham’s work celebrated on the international stage and to recognise his outstanding contribution to research and innovation at Southampton.
Professor Reed is a leading figure in silicon photonics, having established the UK Silicon Photonics Foundry (CORNERSTONE) and led major European research initiatives. Over his career, he has published nearly 700 papers and delivered 192 invited or keynote talks worldwide. His group’s innovations have advanced communications, healthcare, environmental monitoring, and computing. The award will be presented at the Optical Fiber Communication Conference in Los Angeles, in March, where the ORC will also be exhibiting.
