Professor Lisa Roberts appointed President elect of Eurospine

The University of Southampton and University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust are delighted to announce the appointment of Professor Lisa Roberts, Clinical Professor of Musculoskeletal Health and Consultant Physiotherapist, as the new President Elect of Eurospine

Eurospine was officially founded in June 1998 from the merger of The European Spine Society and European Spinal Deformity Society and has grown into a leading organisation of spine specialists (80% of whom are spine surgeons), promoting education, research and collaboration in the field of spine care.

Lisa’s strong association with Eurospine started in 2015 when, as President of the Society for Back Pain Research (the oldest spine society in the UK), she led the society to become an institutional member of Eurospine.  She has since served on 4 committees and 5 task forces and in her time as Chair of the Community and Leadership Council, led the team to a 494% increase in membership.

Lisa teaches on the Eurospine Diploma in Interprofessional Spine Care and in 2023, began working as part of Spine20, an advocacy group aligned to the annual G20 summit, that works with policy makers in the host country and seeks to improve spine care globally. She has represented Eurospine and the UK in Spine20 summits in New Delhi (2023), Rio de Janeiro (2024) and recently (October 2025), in Cape Town, as the team engaged the Health Minister of Western Cape in a call for action to improve spine health in South Africa.

Lisa said: I am deeply honoured to be elected to the Presidential line of Eurospine and represent the UK, the non-surgical community and women. We have an exciting 4 years ahead, as we seek to address the ongoing challenge of back pain — the single leading cause of disability worldwide, and build a membership that supports health professionals across the spine pathway, worldwide.”
