School of Physics and Astronomy excels in Institute of Physics Inclusion Award

The School of Physics and Astronomy has been awarded Level 2 Institute of Physics (IOP) Inclusion Award status, recognising its exceptional leadership in advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion. UoS was the only Physics department in the country to be awarded at Level 2. The School stands out for its innovative mentoring and reverse mentoring programmes, inclusive recruitment practices, and support for staff returning from a career break.

The IOP’s new inclusion award, developed in partnership with the physics community, supports university physics departments to be welcoming and inclusive to all.

Dr Imogen Gingell, Principal Research Fellow and Dr Sandra Raimundo, Lecturer in Astronomy, both from the School of Physics & Astronomy, received the award on behalf of the department at a ceremony held at the Kia Oval cricket ground in Surrey.
