Global Champions: Celebrating staff behind the UoS Delhi launch

July 2025 saw the launch of the University of Southampton Delhi Campus and we know this could not have been achieved without the incredible hard work and commitment of so many of our staff. To say thank you, and to mark the start of teaching for the Delhi Campus’ first cohort, staff who were involved were invited to a celebration event at Highfield Campus.

Staff Matters spoke to some of the attendees, finding out what their role was, how they found the experience, and the impact that it’s had:

The Vice-Chancellor and Andrew Atherton made opening speeches, followed shortly by the cutting of the cake.

Andrew Atherton, Vice-President (International and Engagement) expressed:

“We have done something really impressive in setting up a campus from scratch in India – not only in terms of being the first to launch, but also that we moved at speed to do so. Not many universities would be able to move from submission of an application to enrolment of students in less than eighteen months, but Southampton did. This is absolutely testament to the commitment, goodwill, and engagement of staff across the University.”
