Conflict in Iran
- Dr Keyvan Hosseini spoke to the New York Times about pollution in Tehran, which has some of the world’s dirtiest air, and the impact of highly-polluting fuel mazut that is burnt in Iran’s power plants. He later spoke to BBC Radio Solent about Iran’s burning oil fields and the environmental impact across the Middle East.
- Dr Hormoz Ebrahimnejad told Greatest Hits Radio that many Iranian citizens have no way to communicate with the outside world, with internet access blocked.
- Professor Jason Reifler told Times Radio that American public opinion on the Iran War is “decidedly against the operation”, which is affecting President Trump’s popularity. He also spoke to BBC Wales about the escalating conflict.
- Professor Mario Brito told the Wall Street Journal there is no international agreement on what qualifies as safe when flying in conflict zones.
Meningitis outbreak
- Dr Michael Head commented on the meningitis outbreak with coverage in The New York Times, The Independent, Daily Mail and an interview on BBC World News TV. He later told the Express and The Sun that the data suggests the outbreak may now be slowing. The comments were carried by NDTV in India.
- Professor Saul Faust was quoted in a Guardian article about the rush for meningitis vaccinations and told BBC Radio Solent that there’s no need for people outside of the area affected by the outbreak to receive antibiotics.

- Dame Wendy Hall told the Observer and BBC Radio 4’s Today (1hour 44 mins) that a lack of female representation in computer science risks creating AI and robots with deep-seated misogynistic biases. She was also quoted byThe New Scientist in an article warning that AI is being built almost entirely by men.
- Dr Neil Gostling was interviewed on BBC Radio Solent about Science and Engineering Day, and dinosaurs. The Daily Echo ran a picture spread and report in print and online and our audio and video footage from the daywas used by ITV Meridian and BBC Radio Solent.
